From 1 October, the process for how learner drivers swap driving tests is changing. 

The change will remove the need for learners to coordinate their availability and will hopefully make the process smoother and less stressful. 

So what’s changing

To request a driving test swap, the first learner driver will still need to call Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). The second learner will then need to call DVSA on the same working day to confirm they’re happy with the swap. If a learner calls after the end of the day the DVSA will void the swap.

Previously, both learners needed to be available at the same time to make the swap. 

This is a somewhat cumbersome approach but it is an improvement on the previous method. I am sure the DVSA will eventually find a way to stream line the whole process but this may take some time.
