Flexible & Affordable Driving Crash Courses

Take a driving crash course with A Pass 4 U, a family run intensive driving school with bases nationwide. We strive to provide the best possible driving tuition at affordable prices. Our intensive driving courses are designed to be very flexible to help you through the stressful times that start with studying for your theory test to passing your driving practical test and then on to Pass Plus.

For Best Results Book an Assessment Lesson

The best way to find out which driving crash course is best for you is by having an assessment lesson. There are a number of reasons why this is the best method, including,

  • a real assessment of your actual driving
  • you get to meet the instructor and drive the car before spending any large amount of money
  • normally you will get a discount on the lessons
  • the instructor will give you guidance on the practical elements of driving and you will be able to relate these back to your driving so you will know it not made up

We almost always suggest that you take an assessment lesson that will allow the instructor to see what you can (or more importantly what you can’t) do. It also gives you the chance to meet your instructor and drive the car you will be using on the course. After the assessment, you can then make an informed judgement on what driving course to take and how to structure it, which of course gives you a better chance of passing your driving test whilst maximising your time and money.

There is no ideal driving lesson length. So all of our intensive driving courses are flexible. What matters is that your driving course is right for you!

All Intensive Driving Courses Run By Local Instructors

Our intensive driving courses and semi-intensive courses are run by driving instructors local to the chosen test centre, so not only do they have the skills to offer you the very best chance of passing but can give you some local knowledge on the driving test routes.

Each intensive driving course can be run over consecutive days – or they can be split if you choose to include a theory test with your course. All of our driving crash courses are run 1 to 1 with just you and the driving instructor in the car at any time. An intensive driving course is normally run over consecutive days with the test at the end of the driving course.

It is of vital importance that learner drivers can drive safely. They need the skills to drive on all types of roads before taking a driving test. Learner drivers need to prepare for a lifetime of safe driving, not learn just enough to pass a driving test.

Learning to drive can be quite daunting for any new driver, particularly in busy areas, but our instructors are here to help and use their knowledge not only to aid you in passing your test but also to drive safely. We have numerous makes of car for your driving course; petrol and diesel are available, all are new and modern.

All A Pass 4 U driving instructors are fully qualified ADIs, they will always have up-to-date CRBs. You can be rest assured your fully qualified Driving Standards Agency approved driving instructor will make sure you are not only capable of passing your test but have all the skills for safe driving for life.

Our male and female driving instructors are dedicated, professional individuals who pride themselves on providing exceptional driving tuition.

    HAVE A QUESTION?

    Intensive Driving Course FAQs

What is an intensive driving course?
An intensive driving course, also known as a driving crash course, is an accelerated driver training program designed to help individuals learn to drive and prepare for the driving test in a shorter period than standard hourly lessons, usually within a few days or weeks.

Do I need to have a provisional driving license before starting an intensive course?
Yes, you must have a valid provisional driving license before starting an intensive driving course. If you don’t have one, you’ll need to apply for it through the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) before booking the course.

What is the difference between an intensive driving course and hourly driving lessons?
Apart from the obvious differences that training is carried out over consecutive hours rather than spread out over 4 to 6 months and that payment is required upfront, there are other more subtle differences like transfer of learning, which is a technique used when teaching similar topics one after the other. Confidence can be a major issue for some learner drivers but during an intensive driving course, the instructor has time to prove to the learner that they can do the different subjects which leads to greater self belief. This can be difficult to achieve if the learner is taking hourly lessons.

How are intensive driving courses structured?
Most of our intensive driving courses are structured with 5 hours per day, over a set amount of days, with the driving test arranged to be taken on the last hour of the last day. No driving instructor or pupil can drive safely for 5 hours without rest, so there will be a 15 to 20 minute break somewhere in the middle of each day. This time is taken from the course time, as pupils will normally want to talk about the driving test or something else related to learning to drive.

Can I take an intensive driving course if I have previously failed the driving test?
Yes, you can take an intensive driving course even if you have failed the driving test before. The course can be tailored to focus on the specific areas you need to improve to increase your chances of passing on your next attempt.

How long does it take to pass an intensive driving course?
An intensive driving course will usually consist of a set number of hours of driver training per day, to run over a set number of days. The last hour on the last day of your course will usually see your driving test arranged. Before taking an intensive driving course, you will need to have passed your theory and hazard perception tests. From there it will depend on your experience and your ability to learn. APass4U offer intensive driving courses ranging from 6 hours over one day to 50 hours spread over 20 days. So you can learn at a pace suitable for you. Working out what driving course is right for you is difficult without seeing you drive and this is why we always recommend an assessment lesson.

Can I take an intensive driving course in an automatic car?
Learning to drive in automatic cars can benefit a range of people. Including nervous drivers, older people and those that may have learning difficulties or disabilities. Anybody is eligible to learn in an automatic car! (providing that you do not have any health conditions that may affect you whilst on the road – for example, seizures or epilepsy – and make sure to inform the DVLA). It is important to understand though, with an automatic drivers license, you will not be able to drive a manual car. However, if you have a manual drivers license, you can drive both.

How much does it cost to take an intensive driving course?
The price of our intensive driving courses varies depending on a few different factors such as:

    • How many hours you need to meet the required standard.
    • If you choose to learn to drive a manual or automatic transmission.
    • If you require a bed & breakfast (residential courses).

Do I need to pass my theory test before I can take an intensive driving course?
You do not need to have passed your theory test in order to take an intensive driving course. You do need to pass your driving theory test before you can take the practical driving test, we can help arrange this for you.

Does an intensive driving course include a theory test?
Our range of driving courses are designed for people who are looking to pass fast. An intensive driving course and all of our hourly, daily and weekly courses can be tailored to your requirements and can include a theory test if required. If necessary we can split your driving course so you have time with one of our expert driving instructors before your theory test.

What manoeuvres should I expect to practice during an intensive driving course?
Whilst taking an intensive driving course you will be taught the following and during your driving test you will be asked to complete one of the following manoeuvres:

    • Reverse into a bay (sometimes completed in a 3rd party car park)
    • Reverse out of a bay (sometimes completed in a 3rd party car park)
    • Parallel Park (completed on the road)
    • Pull up on the right and reverse 2 to 3 car lengths (completed on the road)

    Are intensive driving courses safe?
An intensive course in no more or less safe than hourly driving lessons. Driving is a skill you will learn for the rest of your life. It is not easily gained. At A Pass 4 u driving school we pride ourselves in giving quality tuition at the right level for each pupil to be able to not only drive safely but to pass the Driving Standards Agency practical driving test. You will probably put a lot of hours, effort and emotions to gain your driving licence and it can easily be lost, especially in the first 2 years. This is when you are only allowed to gain six penalty points before you lose your licence completely. Then you will have to start again! So above all drive safely!

What times do the intensive driving courses start?
The office will arrange the days but do not arrange the start times. As soon as a course is allocated the instructor is required to contact the pupil within 24 hours to arrange start times and go over the details of the course. The days of the course cannot be rearranged without prior agreement.

What happens if a pupil is late to start an intensive driving course?
Unfortunately, this time will be lost from the driving course.

Do I have to learn the Highway Code before I can take a practical driving test?
If you want to drive a car you’ll need to pass the driving theory test before booking either the car practical driving test or the motorcycle practical test. You need to have a provisional driving licence to take your driving theory test. There are 2 parts to the theory test, multiple choice questions and a hazard perception test. Both parts of the test are taken on the same day. You must book your driving theory test in advance. The questions in the multiple-choice part and format of the hazard perception part depend on what kind of vehicle you want to drive. You need to pass both to pass the theory test. You can take the shorter ‘abridged’ car theory test if you’ve got the Safe Road User Award.

Can I use my own car to take a driving test?
You are allowed to use your own car to take a driving test but it does need to meet Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency standards and you will need to ensure the following:

    • The vehicle has been cleansed to a high level due to COVID-19
    • An additional interior mirror is available
    • Head restraints are fitted
    • The general condition of the vehicle is of a good standard
    • The vehicle needs to be insured for a driving test

What proof of identity will I need when attending a driving test?
When you meet your DVSA examiner they will ask to see the following documents:

    • Driving Licence (this is a must or you cannot take a test)
    • Theory Certificate
    • Marriage certificate (if you have recently been married and not been able to get your driving licence changed)

Can my driving instructor accompany me on my driving test?
Your driving instructor would usually be allowed to accompany you on your driving test, however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic the DVSA are not allowing driving instructors to sit in the back of the car. This may change at any time.

Do intensive driving courses guarantee a driving test pass?
No, there is no guarantee of passing the driving test. Success depends on your ability to learn and apply the skills taught during the course. We will do everything possible to prepare you for the practical driving test, but passing is ultimately up to your performance during the test.

What happens if the pupil doesn’t get to test standard before the day of the driving test?
A Pass 4 U always strive to offer the very best service, however, when a pupil does not reach the required standard set out by the DVSA we have a duty of care to the pupil, the examiners and the general public to only allow safe/competent drivers to go for a driving test. The terms and conditions state “The instructor and/or school has the right to withdraw the car from any test if the pupil has not reached the required level to complete a test safely and competently. The instructor will give a full explanation of the reasons for withdrawal. If the pupil decides to stop training at any point, other than an emergency, fees will be forfeited. ”. The instructor will always be given full support as safety is paramount and where possible the driving school and instructor will arrange additional training if the pupil requests this.

If I get nervous during my practical driving test will the examiner penalise me for this?
Absolutely not. In fact, it should be noted that most people taking a driving test will get nervous, it shows that you care about the result. If you do get so nervous you feel yourself not concentrating, then the best thing to do is to tell the examiner that you need to take a moment, pull over and compose yourself. You will not be penalised for doing this as you are showing the driving examiner that you are taking the safest option.

Would a driving examiner fail me for going the wrong way on my driving test?
It is very common for pupils to go the wrong way on a driving test, usually, this is due to nerves or challenges such as dyslexia. If you take a driving test, signal to turn in the correct way and follow that route, even if it’s the wrong one, the examiner will not penalise you. However, if you indicate to turn one way and then turn in the opposite direction, then you have driven wrongly and you will be penalised.

What vehicle safety check questions can I expect to be asked on my driving test?
One question will be asked at the test centre and one other asked on the move. You can find a full list of vehicle safety questions on our blog.

When will I get to find out if I have passed or failed my practical driving test?
The DVSA examiner will give you the result of your test when you arrive back at the test centre as part of a debrief. Regardless of whether you pass or fail the practical driving test the examiner will explain the results fully including any driving fault marks received. It is important that you allow your driving instructor to listen to the debrief as they will understand the details in more depth and help you to correct these.

Can you drive straight after passing your driving test?
Yes, you can start driving straight after passing your driving test. You do not need to wait for your licence to arrive in the post. Although you should contact the DVLA if your driving licence hasn’t arrived within 3 weeks.
